Purpose (2018)

Approaching the senior year of high school can spark an overwhelming amount of feelings - especially the dreadful ones about the future. Back in 2018, I was uncertain about how my life would be after I graduate, and I continuously questioned what the point is for doing all that we do.
In order to express these concerns and organize my thoughts, I analyze the concept of a "purpose". Specifically, I aim to answer “What is the purpose of life, and why am I here?”

Each paintings provides an answer to these two questions: Each painting is titled "To do___" or "To be___" while offering an abstract explanation with nature imagery. However, none of these offer a definite answer in the end. Instead, I point out the different possibilities in hopes of it offering a sense of direction to my life. The idea shifts from finding a singular purpose to accepting that a purpose will be different for everyone.

The first and last paintings offer my personal reflections prior and after completing the middle works.
